Corner Banh Mi is a website for a Vietnamese Banh Mi restaurant. Users are able to learn about the restaurant, see where it is located, look at the menu, and order online.
Executive summary:
I designed this website for my ISM 270 class, User-Centered Web Design. The project was to create any website from scratch using Bootstrap, a portfolio, or recreating a website and make it better. I chose to create my own website where the focus is on a restaurant. As a food lover and always trying out restaurants, I tend to look at their websites often and try to see their full menu. What I noticed is that, restaurant tends to not include prices on their menu and don't include images or not enough. I decided to create my website where there were prices for each item and each item has an image along with it. The reason why I wanted to include prices and images is that, when it comes to food and culture, as someone how likes to try new things, there are time where I'm not sure what the dish and wanted to see what it looks like. As for price, it plays a big role depending on the person and how much they are willing to spent, rather they don't want to spent that much that day or not sure if it is worth getting because they're not sure about the dish.
Competitive Analysis
To get inspiration on how my layout would look for the website, I did a little research on restaurant's websites and Banh Mi websites. There were two websites that I liked and chose to do mine based on their layout and content. I chose Ba Le and Royal Plate. Instead of looking at the information of content that they have, I did a wireframe for both to look at their layout and chose what I like from each to be put in my website.
After doing the two wireframes and chose what to put in mines, I did a wireframe to have a rough sketch of what the website would look like. From there I build my website and came up with the final product.
Problem:
One of the thing that I found the hardest while doing this website was implementing the order online page. It required me to learn more about JavaScript and learn how to make a order online page from scratch and using Bootstrap. It was an awesome feature at first and would have been amazing if it was implemented. The one thing that I would change if I get to this project again is spending more time learning about JavaScript and implementing the order online page. What I ended up doing instead of making an order online page for the website, I just provided links to online food ordering services.
Reflection:
Working on this website was a good opportunity for me to better my HTML and CSS skills and learn on how to use different Bootstrap templates. Not only did this contribute to my design skills but also development skills in making the website and making it look presentable as a restaurant website. Overall this project was fun and challenging in the sense that I was able to create different pages and linking them together to create a website and figuring out how to add in Bootstrap's templates into the code.
